A good skincare routine, a healthy diet as well as regular exercise has a massive effect on our skin appearance and overall well-being and to celebrate the launch of our NEW Age Restorative Skincare line founder, Susanne, has shared one of her favourite breakfast recipes that works in conjunction with the Age Restorative Line to support body and restore skin health to its optimal state. We see beauty holistically; we look at the entire picture.

Susanne’s Congee Rice Dish

At Susanne Kaufmann, we promote an all-round healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet is a huge part of this. Discover Susanne’s favourite Rice Congee breakfast recipe. It is an extremely hydrating dish that promotes gut health which in turn has a positive impact on the skin as it strengthens the venous walls, which is the best prevention against rosacea, acne, dermatitis and other skin conditions. Also known as rice porridge, it is considered in Traditional Chinese Medicine a must-have breakfast dish and can be purchased in your local store.

Susanne prepares her Rice Congee breakfast every morning, especially during detox. The Rice Congee can be cooked in stock and can be kept in the refrigerator for at least 1 week.


Ingredients


250g congee rice
2500ml of water
2 pears


Method


  • Wash the congee rice thoroughly in a sieve under cold running water

  • Pour congee rice into pot of boiling water

  • Cover with a lid and let the contents simmer gently on the lowest setting for about 2 - 6 hours, stirring regularly. If the rice becomes too thick, add more boiling water if necessary.

  • Slice up the pears and add to the rice congee and enjoy!

  • Susanne’s Top Tip: You can also add antioxidant-rich fruits such as blueberries and raspberries to enjoy with your Rice Congee as part of a healthy, balanced diet. As an alternative, you can spice up the basic recipe by using a vegetable stock or poultry broth as liquid. For extra flavour, add in ginger, chili, leek or smoked tofu.

    The Whole Picture

    Following your Rice Congee, enjoy a brisk morning walk and a thorough facial cleanse before you begin your day.
