Everything You Need To Know About Skincare Part 2

Back to list

Discover the secrets behind our products and ingredients.

We start with Part I and explain the most important Beauty issues from F to S.

F is for …

Face Mist.
Instead of just splashing water on your face refresh with our Moisturizing Spray Harmonizing. This facial spray contains calming witch-hazel and nourishing silk proteins, plus ectoin for a repairing antioxidant effect.

Free Radicals.
Produced by UV radiation, free radicals attack essential molecules in the skin such as lipids, proteins and DNA. To combat this our products contain antioxidants that bind the free radicals and shield your skin. Try our new ampoule set for the most concentrated antioxidant regime.

Fascia.
Unwanted wrinkles can be caused by the frequent tension of various facial muscles. Initially small lines form when the face relaxes. However, if the face is permanently tense and the circulation is disturbed, the wrinkles become deeper over time and finally remain. At Susanne Kaufmann, we recommend a special fascia massage to help to reduce expression lines - we use this technique in our treatments and recommend it at home too.

Fruit acid.
Hard to pronounce but very effective, organic hydroxycarboxylic and dicarboxylic acids found in fruit are the unsung miracle workers that improve skin texture! They help target impurities, wrinkles and dull skin. You'll find them in our Enzyme Peel and Moisturizing Gel Line M.

G is for …

Grapeseed Oil.
A powerful antioxidant, Grapeseed Oil works to delay skin aging by minimizing damage caused by free radicals. You can find it in our Beard Oil Line M; it helps keep hair silky and smooth!

Glycerin.
A skin-repairing substance, Glycerin replenishes and restores the complexion by drawing and absorbing water from the air, helping the skin to retain moisture. Fact: all of our products use only the highest quality vegetable-derived glycerin.

Glow.
Here are three of our tried & tested tips for achieving a glowing, radiant complexion:
1) Before applying serums, start with a gentle peel so that it that their ingredients absorb better;
2) Use a jade roller to kickstart circulation and your lymphatic system;
3) Stimulate skin with a facial massage for a natural, plumping effect.

Green Beauty.
There's some serious buzz about Green Beauty right now. But for us it's far more than simply a trend: Susanne has always believed in the power of plants and their natural active ingredients, which is why they can be found in all of our products.

H is for …

Hyperpigmentation.
When the skin overproduces melanin due to sun exposure or a change in hormones, it can lead to hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin). Combat this with our Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreeen during the day, and then at night apply our Skin Brightening and Radiance Complex - a powerful serum with pea extract that brightens and refines the skin’s appearance.

Honey.
We swear by honey for its antibacterial, antiseptic, antioxidant and antifungal properties. You can find it in many of our products, including our cult Body Butter (once you try it you'll be hooked).

Hyaluronic Acid.
When it comes to hydration, there is nothing quite like hyaloronic acid to get the job done. Fun fact: Ours is purely plant-derived obtained from the aloe vera plant. You can find it in our cult Hyaluron Serum.

Hydration.
As Susanne explains, "It's important to drink enough water because if we don't, the vessels constrict and you can very quickly see it in the complexion. Moisturising creams, fluids and masks containing hyaluronic acid also help to lock moisture into the skin."

Handcare.
Hands are usually the first place to prematurely age, yet they are also often the most overlooked when it comes to the beauty stakes. Here's how to give your hands some much needed TLC: 1. Apply our Hand Peel Rejuvenating, gently scrub and rinse; 2. Follow with our Hand Serum Rejuvenating; 3. Finish by gently massaging in our Hand Moisturiser or Lotion.

I is for …

Impurities.
We've all been there, that moment when you wake up, take a look in the mirror and see a very angry red spot that seems to have magically appeared out of nowhere overnight. Tackle impurities head on (without drying out your skin) with our Active Agent Concentrate Clarifying, specifically formulated for blemish-prone skin.

J is for …

Jojoba.
Why we love it: Not only is jojoba rich in omegas and vitamins A, D and E, it's also antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory. You can find it in our Body Oil—a go-to for healing and protecting dry skin.

Juniper.
There are so many reasons we love Juniper it's hard to know where to begin. Take for instance, its antibacterial and antiseptic properties, or the fact that it can reduce puffiness and cellulite as well as improve circulation. Did we mention its delightful scent too? Find it in our Mallow Blossom Bubble Bath.

K is for …

Kit.
Off on holiday – but don't leave the house without one of our travel kits. Ideal for on-the-go, each edit of mini essentials comes in a transparent zip-lock pouch.

Kaolin.
A naturally occurring mineral clay, Kaolin has been used on the skin for over hundreds of years, particularly throughout Asia. We love it because it helps draw out excess oil, remove impurities and prevent blemishes. You can find it in our Healing Earth Mask—highly effective yet gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin types.

L is for…

Lip Care.
Preventing lips from flaking or chapping can be a constant struggle. But our Lip Balm is more than up to the task. Made from fine beeswax and precious plant-based oils like jojoba and mimosa, it offers long-lasting protection and locks in much needed moisture. FYI - it's a great base for under lipstick too.

Lavender.
It's one of those scents that is instantly recognizable. And in addition to lavender’s natural calming and balancing effects, it's also very multi-purpose, which is why you can find it in many of our products. Exhibit A: Our bestselling Pillow Spray Calming. (Spritz it on your pillow before you go to bed for a goodnight's sleep or you even use it as a room spray).

M is for …

Mallow Blossom.
Why do we love it? Because this delicately scented ingredient refines the skin, soothes irritation and moisturizes. It's especially great for babies and toddlers as well as those with sensitive skin. Find it in our Mallow Blossom Bubble Bath.

Men's Line.
From cleansing gel and moisturizing cream to beard oil and aftershave balm, our men's collection has all bases covered.

Marigold.
One of the many natural ingredients we harvest right here in Bezau, we love marigold for its soothing, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Find it in our Nutrient Concentrate Skin Smoothing.

Masks.
Susanne is a firm believer in masking as an essential step in any skin care regimen. Whether your skin's in need of a little (or a lot) of brightening, calming or hydrating, or if you're wanting to reduce the appearance of pores or draw out impurities, look no further than our selections of face masks. We have one for every skin type and concern.

Melissa.
Also known as 'lemon balm', Melissa a wonder ingredient that we grow right here in Bezau, Austria. We love it for its strong antiviral and antifungal effects, plus its balancing and calming properties. Find it in our Herbal Whey Bath Calming.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil.
Rich in fatty acids, meadowfoam intensely moisturizes, leaving the skin soft and silky smooth—without that greasy residue you can sometimes get with other oils. FYI it's one of the key ingredients in our anti-ageing Line A collection.

N is for …

Niacinamide.
An active, water-soluble form of vitamin B3, niacinamide is a true multi-tasker. It improves cell turnover and microcirculation, has powerful antioxidant and antibacterial properties and also helps regulate sebum production. You can find it in our cult Nutrient Concentrate Skin Smoothing serum.

Night Creams & Serums.
While we sleep, our skin is in regeneration mode. This is why it's the optimum time to use night creams and serums, such as our Skin Brightening & Radiance Complex. There are also some ingredients in night creams that make our skin more sensitive to sunlight (such as many forms of retinol), so it's important to check for what's in your skin care.

Non-Toxic.
Susanne is a passionate believer in the power of clean beauty products and the highly effective results they can deliver. That's why you'll never find these lurking in our products: parabens, silicones, artificial colorants and fragrance, or any other toxic chemical for that matter.

O is for …

Orange Peel Oil.
We love Orange Peel Oil for its calming, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It's also rich in d-limonene, which helps maintain normal cellular growth. You can find it in our Oil Bath Winter and Pillow Spray Calming.

Obsidian Stone Roller.
Created from obsidian, our new face roller is the perfect complement to any skin care regimen. It works to stimulate blood circulation, relieve inflammation and helps your serums to absorb more effectively into the skin (so that you get the most out of the powerful ingredients).

Oil.
Did you know you that face oils are great even for combination or oily skin types? The key is using a 'dry' oil that's rich in unsaturated fatty acids, lightweight and non-comedogenic so that it doesn't clog your pores. Cue our Face Oil Line F; combining vitamins E and A with plant extracts, it helps to balance sebum, firm and regenerate the skin. Susanne's tip: For the best results, apply your oils on damp skin.

P is for …

Parabens.
You might have heard of them before, but perhaps not sure what all the fuss it about. A type of preservative first introduced in beauty products in the fifties, parabens are used by many brands to prolong the amount of time they can sit on a shelf. However, there are many downsides to parabens, such as they are believed to disrupt our hormone function and are also harmful to marine life when they end up in the ocean. This is why you'll never find any kind of paraben in our products.

Peel.
Peeling (also often referred to as exfoliating) is the key to achieving a radiant complexion. Why? Because it removes dead skin cells and impurities, and also makes way for your serums and creams can penetrate deeper into the skin. Try our bestselling Enzyme Peel, which contains fruit acids that gently remove dead skin cells to reveal an instantly brighter complexion. It's highly effective, yet also very gentle, so it's suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.

Pollution Skin Defence System.
If you live in the city then air pollution is impossible to avoid. But thanks to our Pollution Skin Defence System you can now counteract its harmful effects and protect against environmental damage. A first-of-its-kind treatment, this system consists of three perfectly matched vials packed with powerful concentrations of Vitamin C, Ectoin and Q10, designed to be used together as a 15-day regimen.

Pillow Spray.
With precious lavender and orange oils, our Pillow Spray Calming is the secret to getting your beauty sleep. It's designed to be spritzed on your pillow before you go to bed, but also multitasks as a room spray too.

Power of Plants.
Did you know that the powerful botanical ingredients found in our products are grown right here in our organic garden in Bregenzerwald? Not only are our high-quality products non-toxic and free from harmful parabens and preservatives, they are also highly effective.

Often overlooked, rice bran wax is a wonder ingredient which boasts a number of skin care benefits. Rich in vitamin B, zinc and potassium, it works to soothe and regenerate the skin as well as stimulate collagen production. (Find it in our Detox Oil Scrub.)

Rosemary.
Did you know that rosemary is not only great for boosting blood circulation but also boasts natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties? Like nearly all of the botanical ingredients found in our products, the sprigs of rosemary found in our Oil Bath for the Senses are grown right here in our organic garden in Bregenzerwald.

Rose Water.

Regeneration.
While we sleep, our skin goes into regeneration mode. That's why it's the ideal time to use nutrient-rich night creams, such as our Regeneration Cream Line T. Thanks to a blend of rosehip seed oil, chamomile, sage and St. John’s wort blossoms, it works to restore elasticity and boost hydration levels, to reveal a more youthful complexion.

S is for …

Sun Protection.
Nothing causes our skin to prematurely age quite like sun damage. Protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays with our chemical-free sun care range, which combines
the latest innovations with the finest, locally grown botanical ingredients.

Silicones.
So many hair care products out there contain silicones, but not ours. This is because we use broccoli seed oil which is an ideal natural alternative. Not only is this oil rich in antioxidants and vitamins, but it also leaves hair feeling soft and silky.

Scrub.
The trick to achieving an even and believable faux tan? Exfoliating first to ensure a smooth base prior to application. Cue our Body Scrub; it's packed with St. John‘s Wort and pansies which have a soothing effect and reduce pore size, while honey and plant-based hyaluronic acids work to nourish the skin.

Susanne Kaufmann Spas.
In addition to our flagship Susanne Kaufmann Spa at Hotel Post Bezau by Susanne Kaufmann, we also have several destination spas around the world, such as this one at idyllic São Lourenço do Barrocal in Portugal.

We swear by serums for their powerful ingredients that can penetrate deep into the epidermal layers of the skin. No matter your concern—whether it's hyperpigmentation, acne, dehydration, dullness, rosacea or fine lines—we've got you covered.
