Read our top tips to help you restore your scalp’s balance.
Nobody likes having an itchy scalp! And it can be a sign that something is out of balance and your body may be suffering from hyperacidity. Here are some of our top tips to help you relieve the symptoms.
- Ingredients: Whether you are buying shampoo or skincare products, you need to check the ingredients and pH value. And that pH value should be in the acidic range (i.e., between 0 and 5.5). You could well have an itchy scalp because you’re having an allergic reaction to certain ingredients. The best way to eliminate this cause is to read the list of ingredients on your shampoo and conditioner bottles carefully. Parabens, silicones, and formaldehyde in the form of hydantoin or the surfactant sodium lauryl sulfate can trigger allergic reactions and put the scalp under stress.
- Less Is More: When it comes to washing your hair and scalp, it doesn’t take a lot to overdo it. This can certainly be the case when you use too many haircare and styling products, or you use them in excessive volumes. Deposits left on the scalp can soon disrupt the balance. As a rule, you should use a walnut-sized dollop of shampoo on long hair and a hazelnut-sized squeeze for shorter hair. Take care to wash your hair with lukewarm water. We’d also recommend taking your hair dryer down a heat setting, and blow drying your hair with cool air. You should only use specialist products if you really need to.
- Daily TLC: Try to give your scalp some extra TLC every day. A quick massage with your fingertips or a natural bristle brush will get the blood flowing and stimulate the production of sebum, which keeps the scalp nice and moist. During the summer months, make sure you protect your scalp from too much UV radiation and avoid it getting sunburned.
The symptoms of hyperacidity certainly make themselves known and yet it is difficult to diagnose. Scalp or hair issues could be a warning sign. It is the same with your skin. This can be the bodies way of communicating that something is out of balance. You may also feel tired all the time, suffer from headaches, or find that your whole body is just sensitive. Making a long-term switch to an alkaline diet can help restore your body’s acid-alkaline equilibrium.
